Abstract

Organic farming has emerged as one of the most sustainable agricultural practices capable of addressing the challenges of environmental degradation, declining soil fertility, food safety concerns, and rural economic instability. Unlike conventional farming, organic agriculture emphasizes ecological balance through the use of natural inputs, biodiversity conservation, and environmentally friendly cultivation techniques. The increasing demand for organic food products at national and international levels has created significant economic opportunities for farmers while contributing to sustainable agricultural development. In rural areas, organic farming has the potential to enhance farm profitability, generate employment, promote entrepreneurship, and improve the overall quality of life. The present paper examines the role of organic farming in promoting sustainable agricultural growth and rural prosperity by analyzing its economic, environmental, and social dimensions. The study is based on secondary data collected from research articles, government reports, international organizations, and published literature. The findings indicate that organic farming contributes to improved soil health, efficient resource utilization, biodiversity conservation, and climate resilience while offering higher market value and income opportunities for farmers. However, challenges such as high certification costs, inadequate market infrastructure, limited technical knowledge, and transitional yield losses continue to hinder its widespread adoption. The paper concludes that appropriate policy support, financial incentives, research and development, capacity building, and effective marketing systems are essential for strengthening organic farming and ensuring sustainable agricultural and rural development.
