Abstract

Bamboo has been used for a long time in furniture, handicrafts, construction and everyday products. It is often connected with traditional or rustic design. However, improvements in processing and manufacturing have made it possible to use bamboo in many new ways in modern interiors. It is now available in forms such as veneer, laminated boards, engineered panels and woven products. These forms can be used for wall finishes, ceilings, furniture, partitions, flooring, lighting and decorative features.

This research explores how bamboo can become part of contemporary interior design without depending only on its traditional appearance. It discusses the material’s visual qualities, possible applications, functional requirements and sustainability-related concerns. The study follows a qualitative and descriptive approach and is based mainly on published literature and a comparison of different interior applications. The discussion shows that bamboo offers useful design possibilities, but its performance depends on product quality, treatment, moisture conditions, installation and maintenance. The study concludes that bamboo should be selected through careful assessment rather than simply because it is a natural material.
